The Puthagaram Thangal located near Ambattur, adjacent to the Chennai bye-pass road is in a state of neglect. The water body is rapidly shrinking and is currently a polluted structure.

With permissions from the Greater Chennai Corporation, funding through the Chennai Runners team, we at E.F.I. are initiating a collaborative conservation effort to revive this water body. Our interventions are listed below

  1. To clear the trash, construction debris and invasive weeds from the water body
  2. To calculate and deepen the water body to increase its water holding capacity
  3. To strengthen the circumference embankment to ensure stability
  4. To regulate the inflow and outflow systems
  5. To plant native saplings along the earthen embankment
  6. To fence the lake and prevent future abuse

We are expecting the following outcomes

  1. A protected lake in Western Chennai
  2. Increased water holding
  3. Prevent localized inundation or scarcity conditions due to a better management
