1145 positive cases and climbing. Dharavi is Mumbai's heart beat - the densely packed 2.1 square kms is home to more than half a million people, thousands of small businesses. The residents of Dharavi are our city's essential service workers as well, keeping the city moving. Several of them are our domestic help, our plumbers, waste recyclers, carpenters, masons, electricians, taxi and rickshaw drivers. They depend on the informal economy for a living - one that has failed them, leaving thousands slipping into debt and poverty.
Dharavi has over 13 containment zones and is a raging hotspot of Covid 19. Dharavi needs us.
Over the last month, several organisations have been supplying fresh produce and rations to the populations there. With the growth in the number of containment zones, Antarang Foundation, in close partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai is also stepping in.
We aim to provide a dry ration and hygiene kit to 10,000 needy families - families with children with disabilities, battling chronic illnesses, single mothers, widows, the aged and infirm. Each kit costs INR 1500.
There will be a 1:1 match on every donation up to INR 25,00,000 by A.T.E. Chandra Foundation and other donors.
