MITTI CAFE- Help MITTI Café support it's team of adults with physical and intellectual disability.
MITTI Cafe is a non-profit organisation. We are a chain of cafes that train and employ adults with physical, intellectual and psychiatric disability. MITTI has been featured in the Forbes list of 30 under 30 and has been the recipient of the NCPEDP Mindtree Hellen Keller Award,Times-She Unlimited Award and Rotary Exemplar Award amongst others for our social outreach programs.
Today, MITTI has 13 cafes employing over 116 PWDs in organisations like Infosys, Wipro, Accenture, Wells Fargo, IQVIA, ANZ Bank, NSHM etc. which have been forced to shut their operations due to the global pandemic leaving several of our employees returning back to their homes while some who continue to live in our accommodation.
The pandemic indeed, brought forward a new dimension of our team of wonderful adults with disabilities. With a team of 23 staff members, we launched the MITTI Karuna campaign in March, post the lockdown. What began with 100 cooked meals daily has now grown to 8,000 a day crossing over 1 MILLION meals over 6 months to the economical underprivileged.
The meals are cooked and served by our employees with disabilities (many of whom were rehabilitated from the street, trained and employed at MITTI), that enabled us to not just bring relief when millions were hungry, but also enabled us to create awareness about inclusion and abilities to the last mile. We also expanded our work from Bengaluru to Kolkata and then Sundarbans (where Cyclone Amphan had caused massive destruction). The team has also helped migrant workers reach their hometown safely to unite with their families through migrant transport initiatives.
We are keen on our vision of providing opportunities of sustainable employment for persons with disabilities and create awareness about the cause of inclusion of disabilities through economic independence and dignity.
To help us continue our service to provide food and drinking water to daily wage earners and the homeless, would request you to generously donate to our No-Hunger Campaign. Every meals costs Rs 25/- which is inclusive of all costs of producing and distributing it.
Your donation would additionally support MITTI in paying basic wages to our staff with disabilities who are helping in cooking the meals. Apart from having a disability they come from extremely low income backgrounds and are often the only earning members of their family.
MITTI team owes YOU for the support rendered to ensure our persons with disability are actively engaged, who are supported and are supporting other vulnerable and marginalised sections during times of uncertainty.
