Support street side vendors during Covid - 19 shut down - Help them tide over the impact & restore their businesses
Udhyam Vyapaar, a division of the Udyam Learning Foundation, works with nano- and micro-entrepreneurs (vyapaaris) such as tea seller, Ironwala, food carts, cobblers and others. Through a combination of business ideas and mindset interventions we aim to help them sustainably grow their businesses.
The COVID-19 lockdown has plunged this group into financial insecurity - with no idea of when they will be able to reopen their businesses, they are struggling to put food on the table, pay rent, and keep their children in school. The relationships that we have built with them over the last year will mean very little if we cannot help them in their time of need.
To help alleviate some of this hardship, we have created a phased intervention. The first part of this was getting ration supplies to over 1000 families in Bangalore consisting of our vyapaaris and their communities. We hope to continue with this in the coming week reaching many more families in need.
Of this, there are about 500 vyapaaris that we have been working with very closely over the course of the last year. They are located all over Bangalore and the businesses vary from food carts to cobblers and tea sellers to ironing people.
A subsequent part of this phased intervention is this fundraising campaign. The goal is to help these small business owners with direct financial assistance of Rs.3000 per person to enable them to meet immediate expenses and a business re-starter sum of Rs.2000 per person - to help them get up and restart their business as this lockdown is over.
No contribution is too small - every little bit will go a long way in ensuring our vyapaaris are able to continue meeting their expenses during the lockdown and get a boost to restart their businesses once the lockdown is over.
