Viacom18 against CoronaVirus - Support Goonj to help those who are lesser privileged than you
With the growing threat of Coronavirus, we are all busy creating safer and hygienic spaces to protect ourselves from the virus.
The pandemic has spread across multiple countries, infecting thousands of people and has caused more than 5,000 deaths worldwide.
With the current outbreak in India, there is a dire need for soap, sanitisers, masks etc., to fight against the spread in various rural communities of the country.
To protect the poor from Coronavirus Viacom 18 and GiveIndia have joined hands to support Goonj to provide relief to COVID impacted families.
About Goonj's RAHAT Initiative for COVID:
Background: Goonj’s disaster relief initiative RAHAT has evolved into a reliable and time tested, need based disaster relief & rehabilitation approach that engages a network of stakeholders in urban & rural India. With systemic approach from relief to rehabilitation, every year Goonj works through its interventions in big and small disasters from cloud burst, floods, earthquakes, landslides, tsunami to human-made disasters like fire or highlighting ignored disasters like winters. water crisis, lost livelihoods etc. that have never been considered disasters despite the deep and persistent impact they have on the lives of people.
With COVID 19 threatening to spread like wildfire (Stage 3), business activities have been discontinued. The biggest calamity has struck for the daily wage workers and the people working in the unorganized sectors have been severely impacted by the virus and such lockdowns. A lot of them are stuck in cities with hardly any resources, they are out of jobs and lot of them are going back to their villages. With the loss of livelihoods, a large number of them will now struggle to support their families. Apart from instant support measures, Goonj is gearing up for the aftermath of this pandemic and intends to reach out to families in remote villages who due to paucity of resources and livelihood options are badly affected. Goonj plans to address the material needs of these families and plans to stabilize them through one of its time tested Vaapsi initiative (Restoring livelihood). An approach adopted post disaster which not only gives a meaningful employment locally but also makes a dent on forced migration.
