India is facing the worst COVID-19 crisis any country has faced so far. Healthcare system is collapsing in many cities, hospital staff is overwhelmed, many patients are dying, not due to COVID-19, but due to unavailability of healthcare. Many hospitals are unable to admit patients due to lack of Oxygen availability!

Running from pillar to post looking for an oxygen cylinder, begging for a hospital bed, making a thousand calls for live saving drugs, has, very sadly, been a very common sight in India for the last many weeks. All this while, their precious family members are gasping for breath, fighting for their lives. Millions of lives are being impacted daily, with so many people losing their family members, their parents, their kids, and so many kids being orphaned in this crisis.

With so many friends and fellow alums reaching out wanting to help, we have tied up with GiveIndia to help them raise funds to support the currently frail healthcare system. Join the mission to support critical COVID patients, charitable hospitals and COVID Care Centres. Your contribution will help them fight COVID safely and more effectively.

For our first ask, we are raising INR 1,00,00,000, or USD 135,000.

Tax Exemptions: These donations will be eligible for tax exemptions for US taxpayers (under 501(c)(3)), UK taxpayers (under Gift Aid) and Indian taxpayers (under Section 80G).

About GiveIndia’s mission:

There is a critical and immediate need for oxygen in hospitals and COVID Care Centres that GiveIndia’s partner NGOs across the country have been registering with them. In response to this, they have launched a health mission to support critical patients by:

Providing oxygen:

  • Setting up oxygen generation plants in hospitals/COVID facility compounds in various cities. A 5,000-litre capacity plant costs INR 6 cr./USD 800K and can support 650 people per day.
  • Oxygen concentrator costs INR 55,000/USD 750 per unit.
  • Oxygen cylinder costs INR 15,000 - 25,000/USD 200-340 per unit.
  • Oxygen cylinder refills cost INR 800 - 2,500/USD 11-34 per refill.

Providing life-saving equipment:

  • Bi-PAPs cost approximately INR 60,000/USD 810 per unit.
  • Ventilators cost INR 5,00,000/USD 675 per unit.

Providing protective gear: Charitable hospitals and Covid Care Centres are in need of PPE kits, N-95 3ply masks, hand sanitisers and bed sheets among other things.

Setting up Covid Care Centres: Sick COVID patients have been forced to find ways to treat themselves at home as hospitals are choked with the surge in the number of cases and a shortage in oxygen supply.  To support severely ill patients with the treatment they need, GiveIndia is working towards setting up of COVID Care and Isolation Centres, fully equipped with quality care services to treat mild and moderate (non-ICU) COVID patients.
