Goya X Nivaala have joined hands to raise funds for YUVA, an organisation working to fight hunger during the COVID-19 pandemic. Using your contributions, YUVA will distribute ration kits, and run vaccine help desks for Mumbai’s most vulnerable populations.

All donations above INR 1,000 will receive a collection of 8 recipes from some of India’s best chefs, as a token of our gratitude. This digital collection of recipes will be mailed to your inbox at the close of the campaign, on May 15th.

ABOUT YUVA’S WORK ON THE GROUND

As Maharashtra’s coronavirus count continues to spike in the second wave, the most marginalised are again bearing the brunt of the pandemic—from increasing job insecurity, wage cuts, to lack of food and essentials. In a recent rapid situation analysis by YUVA, it was found:

  • Only 16 per cent of surveyed respondents worked through the whole of the past week (since 8 April), and 59 per cent are unsure if they will have work from 15 April.
  • Nearly 55 per cent of households are currently single-earner households, with co-learners forced to stay home due to the closure of work sites, lack of transportation, etc.
  • Only 25 per cent of surveyed construction workers, street vendors, domestic workers and auto drivers are eligible for the Maharashtra government announced one-time relief of Rs 1,500.
  • Members of the homeless, transgender community and single parents are vulnerable, with the majority being unable to work already.
  • Only 46 per cent have received ration as per quota in the past 2 months

YOUR CONTRIBUTION CAN HELP

  • Distribute ration kits to those most in need. Each kit costs Rs 2,500 and contains rice, dal, atta, spices and sanitation items.
  • Run vaccine help desks in communities, to encourage more people to register for the vaccine as it remains the best way to overcome the virus.
  • These kits will be distributed among families of daily wage workers in the slums of Nallasopara and Vasai in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
