In honour of Sahil Sharma, Director- Research and Development and beloved team mate at Cyble, the cyber intelligence company empowering organizations with cybercrime monitoring and mitigation services, has partnered with SOS Children’s Villages of India to start a Project “Umeed”. The project is an initiative to continue Sahil’s goodness after his passing away in May 2021 post a draconian battle with COVID-19. Embracing Cyble at its infancy, Sahil was a key pillar and a foundational element to the growth that Cyble has experienced thus far. His enthusiasm, keen interest in cybersecurity, and willingness to help others are values that have been forever engraved in the fabric of Cyble.

The second wave of COVID-19 has wreaked havoc throughout India, impacting millions of families and children, whose lives will never be the same again. Sahil Sharma, who is forever going to be in our thoughts and in the DNA of our organization, always had a vision for India, especially to do something for children from low-income families.

To commemorate the memory of Sahil and honour his contribution to Cyble, the company has partnered with SOS Children’s Villages of India to support children who have been impacted by the pandemic. While some of these children have lost their parents and are now under the care of SOS Children’s Villages of India, certain others have been abandoned during this deadly pandemic, and the whereabouts of their families remain unknown.

We yearn to remember Sahil by working towards giving these children a chance at childhood, a chance at having a stable future, and a reason for being able to dream again.

We therefore request you to kindly open hearts and come forward to donate in the memory of Sahil Sharma and also help ensure that wonderful little souls have “UMEED” (Hope) for years to come.

Please come forward and help us support them as they grow up into responsible members of our society.

About SOS Children’s Villages of India

SOS Children's Villages of India is a self-implementing child-care, non-profit organization, working for children who are in need of care and protection with the mission that No Child Should Grow Up Alone. We have two main programs:

I. Family Like Care - Under this programme, we build families for children who have lost their parents. Under this program, we reach out to over 6,500 parentless or abandoned girls and boys in 32 SOS Children’s Villages across India. Each village has 12-15 family homes, with every home consisting of 10 children on average along with an SOS Mother. The all-round development, including education, nutrition, health, and psychological development are taken care of till the child is settled in his/her life. This is a long-term care model, wherein we provide support to children till the age of 23 to ensure that they become self-reliant and skilled contributing members of society.

COVID -19 Relief Work under Family Like Care Programme:

We have set up a helpline to be informed of children who have lost their parents due to COVID-19. Once we have the information, we work with CWC to rescue the child. Once saved, the child is brought to our short stay home, where the best option for the child is determined in consultation with CWC, and children are either placed for adoption or moved to an SOS Children's Village for long term care. We have set up such short stay homes near our 32 projects across 22 states in India. A short note on short stay homes is attached for your reference.

In the last quarter, i.e January to March 2021, close to 103 children were added to our long-term care model, and we supported about 52 children through short-stay homes. Between April 1 to May 31, 50 new children were enrolled in our children villages under long-term care (FLC), and 45 children stayed in short-stay homes. Currently, we are actively seeking support for these children.

II.Family Strengthening program - A preventive community intervention program, through which we provide support to over 17,000 children at 32 locations across India. Designed to prevent children from losing parental care or from being abandoned, this program runs in slums and rural areas, within a 30km radius of an SOS Children’s Village. The beneficiaries of this program are children of the most vulnerable lot i.e., children of widows, single women, and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. Spanning from 3 to 5 years, the program aims to enable families to move out of the vicious cycle of poverty towards greater dignity and self-reliance by ensuring the education of children and improving the income-generating capacity of the caregivers.

III.COVID -19 Relief Work under Family Strengthening Programme:

Under this program, we are providing food items, dry ration kits, medical kits, and hygiene kits to families living in slums and rural areas. We have set up community kitchens in communities with a large number of COVID-positive patients. In scenarios where both parents of a child are COVID-positive, leaving no family members to provide care for the child,  they are brought to our short stay homes till the parents recover. Our efforts are also directed at providing support at vaccination centres in collaboration with local hospitals. You can find the latest updates on this here
