I am Neelanjana, a Bhumi Fellow (Cohort 2020 - 22). I became a Bhumi Fellow to understand the education sector and the role of each stakeholder in the system. The vision of the Bhumi Fellowship is to achieve equitable education for all children through systemic change. I work with a low-income private school in Chennai. The children who study at school come from neighboring communities.

I saw one of my students leaving with her father as I was entering school one day. When I asked if everything was okay, the father said, "I am a daily-wage laborer, I have two children. My daily income is not enough to support their education and feed them. I'm going to shift her to a government school instead because the fees there is lower."

This is one of the many stories that I have come across as a fellow. Most of the children at school are from low-income communities, and 20% of the parents are daily wage laborers. Their families have been struggling to make ends meet during the past year. Your contribution will enable 14 children to continue their education and not drop out of school.

The children of Class IV are some of the brightest, kindest, and most creative children I’ve ever met. They are always bursting with ideas, eager to help each other in class and otherwise. I learn so much from the children each time we interact. A contribution of -

  • 1000 will support them for 2 months
  • 4000 will support them for a term
  • 5000 will support 50% of their annual fee*.

*Note - The annual fee is 11, 000.

These children remind me every day that a small act of kindness can go a long way. We hope that you contribute how much ever you can and wish to. Thank you for bringing a smile to our faces!

*All donors will be eligible for the 80G or 501(C)(3) tax exemption.
